First steps

At our first meeting, after going over informed consent to therapy we will perform an inventory of your history. This can include: family history, sources of support, previous therapist experiences, medical history, mental health history and current coping strategies. We will also review your reasons for seeking therapy, and your desired outcomes. This will help us determine the next plan of action.

You as the client

I ask that you come with a sense of openness and curiosity as we go through the process of therapy. This can be a vulnerable process that can bring up a lot of emotions.

As I get to know you, we will come to see what you will find supportive. Over time, with the experience of support and respect of your own processes, we can find opportunities for healing and new understanding.

How long will it take?

Therapy is an ongoing process and periodically we will review your goals to see if they have been met, or whether they are no longer valid for you in that moment. It's also possible that new goals may arise as we work together.

You can choose to end therapy at any time. It is possible for tough feelings to bubble up during the process. There is great value in bringing them up in session as experiencing the cycle of rupture and repair in a safe environment can itself be a source of healing.
